It's been four weeks since Fastlife has launched on Amazon Prime Video! We are finding our way through the game of television production and learning every step of the way. Derek is still working tirelessly on his sponsorships for the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge season. This is the point where most people quit, actually there have been a lot of those points! Going after your dreams is no joke and it can be unpredictable. We set these goals and then make it there and then realize there is so much more work to do. I've had to ask myself if it's because I have a problem being satisfied and each time I do I come back with the same answer...a resounding NO!!! I just want to be proud of a job well done and there is always more you can do to do a good job. Here are three things I am learning that are helping me keep going.
#1 Fake it Until You Make It:
I know you've heard this before. I am not a fake person, I don't like fake people, and I despise being a "fan girl". However, if you want to be successful, you must watch what other successful people are doing and emulate them. Just put your own spin on it, and make sure you are being yourself. I have learned a lot from watching and taking classes from both Lewis Howes and Marie Forleo. Brendan Burchard is another great teacher who I have learned a lot from and reading his book The Golden Ticket was very helpful as well. I've learned things like clarifying exactly who you are and what your values are before you push your message out there. They've also taught me the power of the people you interact with on a regular basis. I now only spend time with people who build me up. I am selfish with my time so that I have the energy to do what I do and accomplish what I want to accomplish.
It's really important to project what you want people to know about you. That's not being fake but being the change you want to see in the world and being who you want to be seen as. Actually that's being very consciously and intentionally real. This takes work, however. To know what you want to be and be seen as, you must search your heart for your values and live them. As you work to hone your craft or talent, whatever it may be, you must be confident even if you don't feel 100% confident inside. I think that's a myth anyway. We all have insecurities at every level. The key is to not let them be more than the confidence you are exuding. Fake it until you make it!
#2 Hard Work Does Pay Off
Work hard. Don't give up. Keep learning and growing. Be humble or you won't hear advice. Listen and learn some more. Put as much effort into your craft or dream as you do into growing yourself. There really isn't anything easy about going after a dream. If we were to strive for easy all the time, we would never grow. If you want to be noticed, clapped for, known for something, feel good about what you've accomplished, you MUST work hard. There is no way around it.
#3 Rest Sometimes
In my quest to know myself and my values I've learned that I need rest. There is a certain amount of sleep per night that you need. Women especially need more than 8 hours of sleep per night. Our systems are working hard and it's important to give them the rest they need to reboot and stay healthy. If we want to receive inspiration, it's important to get quiet on a regular basis and learn to hear that inner voice. Quiet the mind, which can be chaotic. We have so much information coming at us all the time and it's very important to have processing moments or days where we allow ourselves to think through what we are learning and where we'd like to go. I also always bring my faith into decisions and this is very hard to do when we are on the constant hampster wheel and in perpetual motion.
Derek and I want to encourage you and share with you our experiences and things we are learning to motivate you to go after whatever your heart is calling you to do. If you haven't watch our show yet you can find it here:http://amzn.to/2quS1RW. Our hope is by watching us you might see your dreams as doable to. We really are in unknown territory most of the time, faking it until we make it. And what does that even mean anyway? Most important is to have fun and learn along the way!
